Why and How I Founded Popsy
Popsy started back in 2017 when Cherish and I decided to take a leap of faith and create something of our own.
At the time, Cherish was a stay at home mum to our girls and was looking for a way to earn a little extra income while still being there for our daughters.
I was working in the fashion manufacturing industry, supplying clothing to well known high street brands. I thought, “If we are already making products for the high street, why do we not give it a go ourselves?”
I brought industry knowledge and experience, while Cherish, who needed a little more convincing, brought endless passion, creativity and determination. It turned out to be a pretty good combination!
My Role at Popsy
As Managing Director, I oversee the overall running of the business, with a particular focus on finance, technology and strategy.
These days, I have learned that one of the most important parts of my job is knowing when to hand things over to people who are better at them than I am!
While I still like to have my fingers in plenty of pies, I work with an incredible team who help bring our ideas to life every day.
What I Love Most About Popsy
What I love most about Popsy is that we have stayed true to why we started.
We have grown significantly over the years, but we are still a family business that listens to our customers, values their feedback and puts them first.
I also love hearing about the confidence Popsy gives people, including Cherish. Knowing we have played even a small part in helping somebody else feel good is incredibly rewarding.
A Few Personal Facts
- I am a lifelong Birmingham City supporter.
- I love playing poker and was a sponsored poker player when I was 18.
- Las Vegas is one of my favourite places in the world.
- I enjoy experimenting in the kitchen and teaching our two daughters how to cook new things.
- I have recently started growing my own fruit and vegetables.
- I love a long bath. If you cannot find me, there is a good chance that is where I am!
Education, Background and Experience
I studied Business and Finance before building my career across warehouse and logistics management, production management and critical path management within the fashion industry.
Those experiences gave me a strong understanding of how products move from concept to customer, and they have helped shape the way I approach growing and running Popsy today.
Since founding Popsy in 2017, my experience has expanded across business strategy, finance, ecommerce technology, analytics, operations and developing the systems needed to support a growing fashion brand.
Popsy has grown from a family idea into a thriving community, while staying focused on the customers and values that inspired us from the beginning.
